An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She said the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "This year his family member had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were located, and his family member alerted the police about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"The police had not responded by that point," she continued.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

The legal representative explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement again.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
