Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Success also indicates he has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a trophy is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led observers to question if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an better service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.

He defended 4 early break points in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
